Dry Herb Vaporizers
Dry herb vaporizers are increasingly common as more people make the switch from smoking to vaping herbs. The vaporizers are carefully designed to heat dry cannabis plants and create a vapor that contains the flavour and the aroma of the herbs.
Just like other types of vaporizers, it's important to understand your dry herb vaporizer, especially if it's your first time buying or using one.
How does Dry Herb Vaporizers Work?
The vaporizer has a power source (battery) and has a heating element in the form of an oven or a coil and a mouthpiece.
With the power supplied from the battery, the oven or coil heats up the dry herb to the set temperature (about 190 degrees Celsius). Once the herbs are vaporized, you draw the vapor from the mouthpiece.
The functioning of the setup is more or less the same as that of other vaporizers. The difference is in the design of the hardware to allow the equipment to handle the dry herbs.
Types of Dry Herb Vaporizers
Herb vaporizers come in various designs but only two main types. There are portable and desktop herb vaporizers.
The portable types are, at times, referred to as vape pens. They come in compact sizes, are lightweight, and easy to slip into your pockets or purse.
These portable varieties are great to get your vaping fix on the go. They provide quick hits throughout the day.
The desktop dry herb vaporizers are larger. Instead of a battery, this type of vaporizer has a plug-in power source. Since the device is bulkier, it’s often used at home.
The desktop vaporizer holds more herb and is ideal for longer vaping sessions that last for a few hours. The desktop vaporizer is perfect when you’re hanging out with friends and want to share the vaping experience.
Things to Consider When Buying a Dry Herb Vaporizer
Size and portability
It's not only about the size and portability of the vaporizer that you have to consider. You also have to think about your experience and your vaping tendencies. That way, you pick a vaporizer that supports your vaping life. Larger vapes have a longer battery life that offers you more vapes before recharging. On the other hand, smaller vapes are more comfortable to carry, but the battery and vape sessions might not last as long.
Dry herbs vaporizers heat by conduction, convection, or hybrid, which is a bit of both. Conduction heating uses a hot oven that contains the herb, while the convection heaters use a heat source that is located away from the herb. Hybrids use both methods to maximise heating and vaporisation of the dry herb in the shortest time.
Cleaning and maintenance
Other than the overall performance of the vape, you also have to consider the ease of cleaning the equipment. To keep the vaporizer in its best condition, it needs to be cleaned once in a while. It’s important to check if the design of the vaporizer is easy to clean, and if you can easily access all the parts during cleaning for the best results.
