German vaporiser giant Storz & Bickel has struck again with another portable vape called the Crafty Vaporizer. Although the brand was previously known for its world-leading stationary vaporisers, the Might Vaporizer was a much-needed addition but was too big. The Crafty is a follow up of the Mighty spotting the same design as the Mighty but in a much leaner frame.
The Crafty Vaporizer is one of the strongest vaporisers in the market, promising and exceptional vaping performance even on the road. The Crafty was released in 2014. Since its inception, it has left most vapers wanting more and intrigued by its unique design and exemplary performance.
Overall Feel and Build Quality
Storz & Bickel has become a brand associated with the best quality vaporisers in the market like the Volcano Classic, Volcano Hybrid, the Plenty Vaporizer and the Mighty Vaporizer. The Crafty is not any different. It is manufactured following the same ethos, design and manufacturing quality of its predecessors.
It is very well made, featuring some type of rigid plastic material that feels very strong. Most of the device is vented and looks more like a heat sink. The design is well thought functionally and aesthetically, delivering a neat, bold and mean-looking device.
The vented design allows the unit to dissipate the heat generated quickly, so the unit doesn't get too hot.
The Crafty measure 4.3 by 2.2 by 1.3 inches and weighs about 135g. it fits comfortably in hand and has just the right weight. The design shape is ergonomic. It helps you grip the device better compared to other vapes with a smooth finish.
Another interesting design aspect of the Crafty Vaporizer is the mouthpiece. It is 100% external. The mouthpiece swivels out when you want to use it and back into the stored position when you’re not using the vape.
Battery Life and Charging
The Crafty Vaporizer is powered by an Internal, rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. It takes about two hours to charge the battery after it has been completely drained fully. From a full charge, you can get about 45 minutes of usage, depending on your vaping habits and preference.
This is slightly on the lower end. But you could consider the Mighty Vaporizer or the Crafty+, which offer you more vaping time while delivering more or less the same vaping performance.
It’s commendable that Storz & Bickel decided to adorn the Crafty with a Micro-USB adapter so you can easily buy additional chargers.
The Crafty seeks to conserve battery life by incorporating a shut-off feature. This turns off the device after two minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life and ensure you can keep vaping for longer.
Performance, Usage and Vapour Quality
Using the Crafty is rather straightforward. You start by unscrewing the top part of the vape. This exposes the herb chamber. Swivel the piece to the side, and the chamber gets free. After loading the chamber, swivel it back into place. It’s very easy and smooth. You shouldn’t have any problems whatsoever.
The Crafty chamber will easily hold about 0.3g of herb, depending on how fine the grind is. There's a filling tool that comes with the device. It attaches to the top of the chamber and lets you load the chamber perfectly every time, no matter where you are.
After filling the chamber, reattach it to the top part with the mouthpiece. Hold down the power button for two seconds to power on the device. The vape will vibrate, and the LEDs will blink, then the lights will turn red as the unit heats up. Within 90 seconds, the device is ready to start vaping.
The Crafty has two temperature settings; the normal and boost mode. You can engage the boost mode by tapping the power button twice while the device is on.
The performance of the Crafty is very similar to that of the Plenty Vaporizer. When fully packed, the device delivers around 12 big draws per session. If you take smaller draws, you can stretch the number to 15 or maybe 20. For your liquid concentrate sessions, the device has a liquid pad.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Although the Crafty is a hardy device, it can only function as expected if you take the time to clean and maintain it properly. After each session, take the brush that comes with the device, clean the chamber and the upper screen to get rid of the little herb particles left behind.
For an immersive cleaning routine, the entire device comes apart into a bunch of smaller pieces, making it easier to clean all the nooks and crannies. Most of the cleaning tools you need come with the kit.
