Can You Cook with CBD Oil?

With all the exciting CBD products in the market, you have to wonder, why can’t you use CBD oil to cook? Or maybe you can it’s only that you haven’t figured it out yet.

Not only can you cook with CBD oil, but it can be fun! The prospect of adding new flavour with unlimited health benefits in your kitchen is always exciting.

Don’t get carried away by the excitement. It’s important to keep in mind that CBD is unlike other cooking oils.

CBD oil is sensitive to temperature which calls for special attention when you’re using it to cook.

Tips on How to Cook with CBD Oil

If you’re unmoved in your quest to try and cook using CBD oil, there are some tips you need to help you make the best out of CBD and also bring out the best in your food.

Use fat

You can’t use CBD oil on its own when cooking. However, you can mix it with fats or oil-infused ingredients like butter and ghee. Not only do these ingredients bring a unique flavour to the food, but they also make it easier for the body to absorb the CBD because cannabinoids bind well with fat.

Avoid heat

When cooking with CBD, you have to be cautious about the amount of heat you subject to CBD. Extreme heat can make the CBD bitter and cause it to evaporate making it less potent.

You should avoid using CBD oil when using high-temperature methods like deep frying and sautéing. Instead, you can save your CBD oil for poaching and you can also use it as a garnish. This allows you to save the CBD oil as well as its benefits while at the same time bringing new and exciting flavours to your meal.

Go for strong-flavoured dishes

CBD has a strong and bold flavour that is only enhanced by heating. Going for strong-flavoured dishes helps to mask that bitter and grassy taste of CBD and give it more range. If you use CBD oil on subtle-flavoured food, the bitter taste will be noticeable and the food might not be enjoyable to eat.

Control your dose

Don’t get too excited trying CBD oil on different foods and forget that you still need to keep an eye on how much CBD you take. Even though CBD is not psychoactive and has very low toxicity, taking too much can cause undesirable effects like diarrhoea and nausea.

If you’re just starting out, it’s best to start slow and gradually increase the amount of CBD depending on how you respond.
